MWT Race #3
Midwest Thunder Racing Series
Track: Mini Indy-Indianapolis, IN
June24-25
This is historically Midwest Thunder's largest attended race and this year was no different.
Heavy Honda: Heat 2 P2 - Starting P2 in H2 is not our favorite. Your main position is based on passing points so there is no room for error. Jonathon didn't drive as hard as needed and ended in P4 this caused him to be in the C main in P2. He had to finish in the top 3 to transfer to the B Main. He finished P3 which placed him P9 in the B main. He just missed the secured spot and finished P5, but this makes him the X (alternate) in the A main. That means, if someone scratches and doesn't make the race or within the first lap someone has a broken car that is not repairable he gets a chance to get in. Within the first lap there were a few cars that had come into the pits for repairs and Jonathon was pushed out, only for those cars to go back out, causing him to have to leave the race. Then on the second attempt of the first lap, another incident occurred, causing cars to come into the pits so he was pushed back out. Each time you anxiously await and hope your driver gets to stay but also hoping the other drivers get back out. It's a double edged sword! Jonathon was able to stay in the race after another driver was DQ'd from the race. His finish was P5. We'll take it!
Heavy World: H2 P1. This was where I messed up and I can't remember where he finished but he ended up P4 in the A main. This class is still "new" and he is racing against some of the best kids in the country that have a few years experience. He raced his heart out and ended in a solid P2. This was an awesome moment for our driver!
CB51 Design Unrestricted Animal car. Once again, the R word doesn't like "Animal" day and we got storm after the heats that were pretty significant in action but not rain fall. This was our first storm that set the stone for the rest of the week in Indianapolis! There were tornado warnings and we had to take cover! It was quite eventful! But back to the race results, he finished in P5.
