2023 Buckeye WinterNationals Race #3

Race #3 did not disappoint. After having over a month off from racing we headed back to the infamous Hog Barn at the Ohio Expo Center for race 3 of the 6 race series.

Heavy Honda was on point! Started in P5 in the heat and he worked his way to the front and we had a great race between Keegan Weese and Jaxon Burnett. Jonathon took the checkers; landing him his VERY FIRST POLE position in an A Main (at a large race). That may be not a big deal to some....but this was a big milestone for JCD. The feature, RJ Deigthon took the lead within the second lap and checked out. Jonathon and Keegan battled for second and third spot for several laps. A caution came out putting Jonathon in second, but three lap cars separated him and the leader. He ended up in a very strong second.

Jonathon was honored to drive the Blane Withers Racing Heavy 160 this weekend due to Blane celebrating his StepDad, Cody's 2022 racing season. Obviously, running a car that is not yours adds additional stress. He started P5 and ended in P4 putting him P4 in the A Main. Not too shabby for your first time in someone else's car. The key for this class was just to give Justin track info. The A main, brought Jonathon a strong P3 finish.

Heavy World Forumula; this is still a learning class for us. As we learn this motor, the torque, the setup on top of the indoor track challenges, we are still figuring this out. In the heat he started in P2, and ended P4, having a flat tire doesn't help your speed.  That finish put him starting P7 in the A. The A Main was a huge struggle, mentally and physically. The fumes were strong this past weekend, he was anxiously waiting to roll out for the A, then the headache came on. By the time we finally rolled the headache was full force and the ibuprofen had not kicked in yet. He rolled out on to the track and then there was a delay due to oil being on the track. They were running some working laps to work out the track issues, then rolled into actual warm up laps.  Coming into turn one, the bolts off the right rear hub were sheered, losing the tire, spun and flipped landing on his side. Refer back to having a headache. I thought for sure he'd be done but he said if we could get it fixed he'd go back out! Everyone worked hard for us to replace the hub and get him back rolling out in under three laps! This is my favorite part of this sport! He rolled back out, ran a few laps and pulled off because the car just wasn't right!

We will take two podiums out of three!
