MWT Waterford Recap '21

 😋🏁Mamma messed up and didn’t realize she never posted the Waterford MWT Recap! So better late than never! And how did I forget this since it was our biggest accomplishment yet!

 

WOW! Race #2 @Midwest Thunder at Waterford, MI Recap! Jonathon has competed in this series for four years, started competing in competitive classes in mid 2019. We had very minimal success with the series last year with only competing in one A main as a Jr Honda. This year brought us into two highly competitive classes; Senior Honda and Light 160. These classes are typically the largest car count for the weekend. Waterford didn’t disappoint with 30 cars in Sr Honda and 23 in Light 160.

 

Jonathon started in P5 in his Honda heat and finished 2nd that put him straight into the A in P5. There was an E main for Honda. Going straight to the A was an accomplishment for our team in itself.  He pulled off a third place finish. This is the first time he’s ever been on podium at MWT. It was awesome to have to work through other Dads to get to my boy to congratulate him! Despite the rumors of this sport not being about the kids – celebrations prove otherwise!

 

This brings us to Lt. 160. Which is a new class for him this year, competing with top talented drivers and some that have competed in this class for 2 or more years! Jonathon started P2 in his heat, he held 2nd place until 3 laps to go and the talented Kamden Hibbitt caught up with him taking second. A caution came out giving us a restart. Knowing Kamden would go for first I was hoping Jonathon would follow along and reclaim second. Well he did but the car came down on him causing his chain to break. He was taken into the pits and the chain was broke and we needed more than three laps to replace the masterlink that broke in half. That put Jonathon as a DNF for his heat putting him P10 for the C main. This is where things start getting exciting! Jonathon dug his way up to win his first lower main! That puts him in 7th position in the B main. B main was stacked with talent! He’d have to finish in the top 4 to transfer to the A. He was persistent and finished 4th place. The last 7 laps were intense! But he pulled it off. The top four were Tyler Lupton, Hudson Roberts, Kedryn Evenson, and Jonathon. 4th place finish puts him starting the A main in P10. We were already proud of him for literally driving his booty off and getting to the A main from complete last out of 23 cars! What we were not expecting was another podium finish. He drove right up to have claim another THIRD PLACE finish!




We can’t even begin to express how proud we are of Jonathon and his Dad!

  Mid Ohio Race #2/8 Track: Miami Valley April 23, 2023 Another cold, cloudy and dreary day for Mid Ohio Race #2 Heavy Honda Jonathon started in P1 in the heat and led the entire heat with Trevor Jones being on his bumper! The feature put him on the pole and after a double file restart bringing out a caution, a single file restart started the race. Jonathon made a rookie mistake and went below the dot and got penalized. Putting him on the tail of the 3 car field, Once he got settled back in he took the lead and took the checkers!  Heavy World was another three car field. In the heat one of the cars didn't make it out leaving Jonathon and Phillip Clement Jr. Jonathon lead the lace until two laps to go and spun out on his own. North Georgia Super Regional Recap

🏁 North Georgia Super Regional – Cumming, GA - April 2, 2022 🏁 Track : North Georgia Quarter Midget Racing Association 🏁 Miles : 1040 🏁 Hours : 19 hours We traveled south for the first of the national series Super Regional race in Cumming, GA, with over 225 cars in attendance. This year Jonathon is running Senior Animal, which had a total of 19 cars and Light 160 with a total of 24 cars. Jonathon has never raced here and we came not having much information on set up. We were able to do a controlled 2 minute practice on Friday night.  Senior Animal: Jonathon got a P1 in Heat 2 and ended in P3. That placed him P4 in the B main. During the B main he had fallen to the back of the pack at the start. P4 is probably the worst position to start in and he wheeled his way up to a P2 finish. This put him P8 in the A Main. 2023 Buckeye WinterNationals Race #3

Race #3 did not disappoint. After having over a month off from racing we headed back to the infamous Hog Barn at the Ohio Expo Center for race 3 of the 6 race series.  Heavy Honda was on point! Started in P5 in the heat and he worked his way to the front and we had a great race between Keegan Weese and Jaxon Burnett. Jonathon took the checkers; landing him his VERY FIRST POLE position in an A Main (at a large race). That may be not a big deal to some....but this was a big milestone for JCD.  The feature, RJ Deigthon took the lead within the second lap and checked out. Jonathon and Keegan battled for second and third spot for several laps. A caution came out putting Jonathon in second, but three lap cars separated him and the leader. He ended up in a very strong second. Jonathon was honored to drive the Blane Withers Racing Heavy 160 this weekend due to Blane celebrating his StepDad, Cody's 2022 racing season.
